Christmas Table Setting Ideas: How to Set a Holiday Table for Christmas in Style

Christmas always feels a little brighter when the table looks beautiful. Maybe it’s the glow of a candle, or the sound of everyone sitting down together — whatever it is, there’s real joy in setting the scene. I like to think of the table as the heart of the celebration. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just warm, welcoming, and full of little details that make people smile.

1. Start with a Calm, Neutral Base

I always begin with a simple cloth. Something classic, soft, and easy to layer on. The Chambray Stripe Tablecloth has that relaxed look I love — fresh but not too formal. The stripes feel timeless and go well with any colour scheme, whether you’re keeping it traditional or adding coastal touches for an Aussie summer Christmas.

From there, bring in a little festive charm. The Christmas Deer Runner is one of my favourites — red, cheerful, and instantly Christmassy. If you prefer something a little softer, the Wreath Christmas Runner pairs beautifully with natural greenery and rattan textures. Both are easy ways to add that holiday feeling without going over the top.

2. Layer Textures for Warmth

Texture is what makes a table come alive. Woven placemats, cotton napkins, a mix of patterns — they all add depth. I love using the Navy Snowflakes Placemat for a more classic tone, or the Prancing Reindeer Placemat when I want something fun and light-hearted.

Don’t worry about everything matching perfectly. A little mix-and-match feels authentic. The goal is a table that looks gathered and inviting — not staged.

3. Bring the Table to Life with a Simple Centrepiece

A centrepiece doesn’t have to be fancy. Sometimes I start with what I already have — pinecones, greenery from the garden, or a few candles. Add in a few special touches like wooden trees or velvet reindeer to create height and texture.

If you prefer a softer palette, try mixing soft golds and creams with greenery. It catches the light beautifully, especially at sunset dinners. The idea is to make the table feel alive — like everything belongs there naturally.

4. Finish with Heartfelt Details

It’s the small things that make people feel special. Add Christmas crackers, tie napkins with twine, or place a sprig of rosemary on each plate. I sometimes scatter a few small ornaments or tiny pine branches between plates for that lived-in festive feel.

Don’t forget to carry the same warmth through the rest of the space. A few cushions from our Cushions Collection or a simple Vase filled with greenery ties everything together beautifully.

A Christmas table doesn’t have to be extravagant — it just needs heart. When you mix natural textures, soft linens, and a few sparkly details, you create something that feels relaxed yet beautiful. That’s what I love most about holiday styling: it’s about gathering the people you love and making the space feel warm, joyful, and truly your own.
